Wikipedia uses the Community Portal to welcome people to the Wikipedia community, and to serve as a sort of "nerve center" for the internal workings of the 'pedia. Things like lists of requests for entries, a "collaboration of the week" where the Wikipedia PTB choose an entry for the community as a whole to expand and clean up, links to Wikipedia standards for writing, etc.
At the moment, I don't know that the Portal will be useful for our needs - the Main Page is a better fit for that sort of thing in the genesis period. As the Achewiki grows and the Main Page is used for "grander" things, the Portal will probably be a good place to plan projects to improve the wiki, etc. --Golfhaus 08:03, 13 May 2005 (GMT)
