Achewood, California is the fictional setting of the Achewood comic strip. Located in either central or northern California (but almost certainly not southern California), Achewood has a thriving Underground scene, thanks to the efforts of feline developer J. Vincent J. Lemoni in 1945. There are approximately 70 entrances to the Underground in Achewood.

The Achewood "overground" is home to Chris Onstad and his wife and baby. Téodor, Lyle, Mr. Bear, and Philippe live with the Onstads. Ray lives in the upscale Achewood Heights section, while Roast Beef lived in the more lower-class East Achewood with Gramma K until he moved out.

Achewood is home to Dexter University, which to this point has not been featured in the comic strip. It is also the location of the Seven Pines Golf Course, which is where Todd lives.

Based on the most recent map of Achewood and comments made by Téodor on his blog, Achewood may be Palo Alto, California, with Dexter University corresponding to Stanford University, Onstad's alma mater.
