Diabetes

Diabetes is a disorder that affects the body's blood sugar levels. It is commonly characterized as the body's resistance to insulin, which results in a failure to absorb glucose to convert it to energy. Being obese is one of several things that can lead to this disorder.

Diabetes has shown up a few times in Achewood:

• During the possessed banjo story, Ray thought his blackouts were "quick-onset diabetes".
• When Philippe got fat by constantly eating at Subway, Teodor motivated him to lose weight by threatening him with diabetes and the removal of his legs.
• In December 2005, Ray found out that he's predisposed to diabetes. In that same story arc, it is revealed that Ray's Mom can hear diabetes in a man's voice.

For the record, diabetes probably can't afford two hundred dollar Nikes. It is also not invited to Ray's pizza party.
