Mr. Bear (also known as Cornelius) is one of the stuffed animals who live at 62 Achewood Court. He appears to be at least a little bit older than most of the other characters, as Roast Beef and Ray are known to poke fun at his age. He seems to be the only major character with a marriage under his belt; in fact, an entry in his weblog suggests that he's been married several times. A musician, he has been shown to own a trumpet and a French horn.
He left the confines of Achewood to travel to Russia in the pursuit of Ekaterina Gomova, a volleyball player for the Russian Olympic team. His dreams of meeting her and having a whirlwind romance were shattered when he finally was in the same room as her: from a hiding place, he watched her eat in a most undignified manner, his disappointment only overcome by his surprise when his hiding place gave way and he was discovered.
Mr. Bear is the most aristocratic of the characters - he is well-traveled and intelligent, enjoys weaker drinks than most of the bunch, and is an accomplished author of children's books (his most known and popular is So Many Whales). His career as a children's writer took a turn for the worse during some unspecified unpleasantness in his personal life, which affected his writing. More recently, he has taken a job writing the closed-captioning for The Spice Channel. Needed repairs to his customized Mini Cooper also forced him to write Harlequin romance novels under a pen name. Mr. Bear seems to consider this more shameful than his closed-captioning work. In more recent history, he was persuaded to buy a bar from an acquaintance under the condition that he rename it. On a suggestion from Ray, he named it The Dude and Catastrophe.
He is, as Teodor, a fan of the Orange Creamsicle Alcoholic Drink. He is also fond of Pimm's. A shot of vodka, followed by a shot of bourbon and a shot of tequila renders Mr. Bear not afraid of the police.
