In December 2005, Ray found out from Dr. Andretti that he is predisposed to diabetes. Or as Dr. Andretti put it, Ray's "lifestyle is to diabetes what a nail is to a hammer."

In order to combat the diabetic menace, Ray ran a mile. He wrote his life story for Reader's Digest as a cautionary tale so others would know how to avoid being predisposed to diabetes. Roast Beef pointed out that even though Ray is acting as if he actually has diabetes, he's only predisposed to it. This is mainly because Ray eats a wedge of brie in the manner of a pie, and he will circle a parking lot for twenty minutes just so he can get a spot directly in front of the store.

Ray's Mom is able to hear diabetes in your voice. By the time of her visit in January 2006, it didn't appear as if Ray was all that concerned about diabetes anymore.
